Discover the meditative beauty of Chinese calligraphy—an art form rooted in breath, rhythm, and stillness. In this introductory workshop, participants will learn foundational brush techniques, character structure, and the essential tools used in traditional Chinese calligraphy.

Through slow, intentional practice, we explore how ink and movement can support focus, mindfulness, and emotional calm. Participants will write selected characters, explore their cultural meaning, and create a personal calligraphy work to take home.

No experience required—just curiosity and a willingness to slow down, breathe, and enjoy the process.


Gentle Strength: Tai Chi for Mind & Body

Featured Asian Arts New York Artist: Master Sandra L. Balint

Dates: February 10 – March 31, 2026

Schedule: Once per week | Mondays | 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM (8-week series)

Tai Chi is a practice where breath, balance, and movement align. In this 8-week program, Master Sandra L. Balint introduces participants to Sun Style Tai Chi through gentle sequences designed to improve focus, flexibility, and inner calm.

Perfect for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, this workshop encourages relaxation, body awareness, and stress relief—one slow breath at a time.

Master Sandra L. Balint is a nationally certified Tai Chi instructor, black belt, and published writer who has taught Sun Style Tai Chi since 1998. She has earned multiple medals—including an international silver medal—and performed and instructed at major events such as the Tai Chi Gala.

Experience the quiet strength of ink on paper—where breath meets movement and each stroke becomes a moment of focus. This beginner-friendly session introduces the tools, rhythm, and structure of traditional brush writing while guiding participants through mindful practice that nurtures calm and clarity.

Attendees will write selected characters, learn their cultural significance, and leave with their own completed piece of calligraphy.

Open to all levels—no prior training needed.

“The healing power of Tai Chi”

Instructor: Master Sandra Balint

Schedule: Wednesdays, 3:30–5:00 PM, 12 weeks

Duration: Oct 1st to Dec 17th

Class Length: 90 minutes

Tuition: $30/week


Teacher and Class Introduction:
Master Sandra L. Balint is a certified Tai Chi master, black belt, and published writer who has taught and performed Sun style Tai Chi since 1998. She has presented nationally and internationally, earning multiple medals, including an international silver medal in Sun style, and has performed at the Tai Chi Gala under Master Loretta Wollering. Program Details:
Starting October 1, 2025 in Albany, NY, Master Balint will lead a 12-week workshop in Sun style Tai Chi, the newest of the five major Tai Chi family styles. Created by Sun Lu Tang (1861–1932), this accessible form is performed in higher stances with distinctive footwork, making it suitable for all ages and recommended by the CDC for fall prevention.

“Begin your journey into Chinese Painting”

Instructor: Dr. Anping Liu

Schedule: Wednesdays, 5:15–7:15 PM, 12 weeks

Duration: Oct 1st to Dec 17th

Class Length: 120 minutes

Tuition: $30/week


Teacher and Class Introduction:
Dr. Anping Liu, an active member of the New York Folklore Society and Overseas Chinese Artists Association, has exhibited widely, including at Albany Art Associates, Albany Center Gallery, and Stockade Outdoor Art Show. His 2021 exhibition at Albany Art Associates earned praise from the Times Union.


Program Details:
Beginning October 1, Dr. Liu will lead a 12-week course in Chinese brush painting. Students will learn essential skills with ink, paper, brush, and color, progressing toward completing the traditional subjects: bamboo, orchid, mountains, water, etc. “The brush follows the heart, the ink echoes the soul”.

“The Art of Majesty Movements in Peking Opera”

Instructor: Wenhua Nie

Instructor Bio:
Wenhua Nie is the first class director and actress at the Shaanxi Opera Research Institute, inheritor of the Shang school of Peking Opera martial female roles, and a multiple award winner.

Children’s Class: 1:00–2:30 PM
Adult Class: 2:45–4:15 PM
Tuition: $40 per session


Curriculum:
Training in foundational opera movements—hands, eyes, body, method, and steps for Hua dan and Daoma dan roles. Build stage presence, refine posture, and experience the beauty of Chinese opera.
