Asian Arts New York (AANY) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that celebrates and supports Asian arts and artists across New York State. Through cultural exchange and creative collaboration, we connect communities and showcase the depth and diversity of Asian artistic expression.

Wei Qin - Founder & President

Wei Qin – Founder, President & Board Member

Wei Qin is the Founder and President of Asian Arts New York (AANY), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and advancing Asian arts and cultural traditions throughout New York State. Guided by the belief that "Art Transcends Boundaries and Connects People," she established AANY to create opportunities for Asian artists, foster cultural exchange, and strengthen connections across diverse communities. Within its first year, AANY has grown into a recognized Pan-Asian arts organization, securing multiple New York State grants and presenting programs in music, dance, visual arts, education, and community engagement.

A recognized cultural leader in New York's Capital Region, Wei received formal proclamations from the New York State Senate and the New York State Comptroller in 2025 for her contributions to cultural preservation. In 2024, she was honored as one of the Distinguished Women of District 110 for her outstanding community leadership.

Prior to founding AANY, Wei served as President of the Chinese Community Center of the Capital District of New York for three years. Under her leadership, the organization expanded its community impact and received the Global Citizenship Award from the International Center of the Capital Region in 2023. She also helped secure state funding for programs and building renovations in 2024.

Wei believes that cultural diversity strengthens the prosperity and vitality of the Capital Region and remains committed to creating inclusive spaces where artists and communities can learn, collaborate, and thrive together.

Leadership

Ann Parillo - Secretary
Ann Parillo

Board Member | Secretary

Ann Parillo is a longtime community advocate, TV host, and nonprofit leader. For over 27 years, she has hosted and produced Capital Region Today, a television program highlighting local arts and culture. She also serves as the volunteer Executive Director of Singles Outreach Services Inc., a social organization for single adults.

Ann is Board Secretary of the ElectriCity Arts and Entertainment District and actively volunteers with community theaters, the Kids Arts Festival, and Jazz on Jay. Her many honors include the YWCA Woman of Achievement Award, Proctors Volunteer of the Year, and the rare distinction of Schenectady Patroon. A retired pharmacist and former business owner, Ann taught at the Albany College of Pharmacy and served with the NYS Board of Pharmacy and other healthcare advisory boards. Her connection to China began through her late husband Greg Millett, whose father’s 1943–44 Kodachrome slides of wartime China were later exhibited and donated to the National Museum of History in Beijing. Ann continues to nurture a deep appreciation for Chinese culture and history to this day.

Peter G. Balint - Comptroller
Peter G. Balint

Board Member | Comptroller

Peter Balint is a retired executive with an extensive background in both domestic and international markets. He served as the first Managing Director of NYNEX International in Europe, based in Geneva, where he led major market development initiatives and achieved significant market leadership in the telecommunications sector.

Having immigrated to the U.S. at age 13, Peter’s personal experience with cultural challenges has been a key reason for his involvement with the AANY board. He authored a memoir, The Shoe in the Danube, about his immigrant experience as a Holocaust survivor. Peter served in the U.S. Army for three years, achieving the rank of Captain. A practitioner of Tai Chi for over 25 years, Peter is married to Sandra Balint, a Tai Chi Master and longtime supporter of the local Chinese community. He holds a degree in French from Siena College and has completed graduate-level courses from institutions such as Yale, Princeton, and Wharton. Peter has also participated in international business seminars and lectured at universities such as the University of Idaho and INSEAD. Peter has also served in leadership roles such as Commander of the Lake George Power Squadron and Treasurer of the Fan Association of North America (FANA).

Dr. Sridar Chittur - Board Member
Dr. Sridar Chittur

Board Member

Dr. Chittur is a Research Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Functional Genomics at the University at Albany. In his research career, he develops advanced genomic technologies to identify critical disease biomarkers while actively training next-generation scientists through dedicated workforce development initiatives.

Regionally, he is a prominent voice for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, serving as Secretary and Advisor for the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs (APAPA) Albany Chapter and recently earning recognition as an AAPI Summit Honoree. He also brings this commitment to public service to his local role as President of the City School District of Albany Board of Education, where he successfully championed the district’s first-ever educational equity policy to eliminate minority learning disparities.

Anaik Carne - Board Member
Anaïk Carne

Board Member

Anaïk is an entrepreneur and former business development executive, whose career has been defined by building connections, fostering growth, and creating meaningful experiences. Born in Japan and immersed in its culture during her early childhood, she developed an early appreciation for the artistic traditions that cultivate attentiveness, beauty, and a deeper awareness of the natural world.

Professionally, she has spent more than two decades in business development helping organizations grow through strategic use of technology, operational excellence, and customer-focused innovation. As an executive at a local service business, Anaik guided the company through significant growth and ultimately a successful sale. This experience honed her expertise in leadership, governance, organizational growth, and long-term strategic planning while reinforcing the importance of purpose-driven work.

Alongside a career in business, she has maintained a connection to the contemplative arts. As an ikebana artist, Anaik has studied with both Sogetsu and Ikenobo schools, finding in the tradition a unique synthesis of creativity, discipline, and mindfulness.

As a board member, Anaïk is committed to supporting artists, teachers, and cultural organizations that make these practices accessible to broader communities. Drawing on both business leadership and her artistic experience, she seeks to help strengthen the organization’s mission while championing the role of the arts as a source of well-being, resilience, and human connection.

Yono Purnomo - Advisor
Yono Purnomo

Advisor

Chef Yono Purnomo is an internationally recognized chef, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and culinary ambassador whose career spans more than five decades. Born in Solo, Indonesia, he graduated from APN/NHI in Bandung in 1971 and began his culinary journey aboard the renowned SS Rotterdam of Holland America Line.

Through his mastery of Indonesian flavors and spices, Chef Purnomo has become a leading advocate for Indonesian cuisine worldwide, collaborating with Indonesian embassies globally to promote cultural exchange through food.

Chef Purnomo is the co-founder of the award-winning Yono’s Restaurant in Albany, New York, and a Founding Director of Albany Wine & Dine for the Arts. He has received numerous national and international honors, including an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the State University of New York and recognition from the American Culinary Federation and France’s Académie Brillat-Savarin. Together, Yono and his wife Donna have dedicated their lives to promoting culinary excellence, cultural understanding, education, and community service, leaving a lasting impact on both the Capital Region and the international culinary community.

Jennifer Zhao - Advisor
Jennifer Zhao

Advisor

Jennifer Zhao holds a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science Engineering from Cornell University, a Master of Engineering in Integrated Microsystems from the University of Michigan, and an Executive MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology.

She is a small business owner, independent educational consultant, and adjunct professor at Russell Sage College. Previously, she served as Executive Director of the International Center of the Capital Region and as a lead engineer at GE Global Research. Jennifer has served on the boards of the Niskayuna School District, YWCA of Northeastern NY, APAPA, and the Chinese Community Center. She is also an active parent in the WLWV school district and a member of the Bolton PTA.

Tai Ngo Shaw - Advisor
Tai Ngo Shaw

Advisor

Tai, CEO of CNY Uniform Plus, has led the Asian American community in Central New York for over two decades. Coming to NY on his own as a ten-year-old Vietnamese refugee on a boat, his background in business psychology, community development, and human services has given him the unique ability to promote cultural diversity, absolute equality, and economic growth throughout NY.

As founder and primary contributor of the Blessing Box, a New American food pantry, which consistently feeds over 100 families each week, Tai has been able to put his money where his heart is. Blessing Box serves families from a broad range of backgrounds, including many from Burma, Bhutan, Nepali, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Cuba, Iraq, Sudan, Congolese, Somalia, Sierra Leone, and Ukraine. He has also organized bike, clothing, furniture, and phone giveaways, as well as health fairs.

Tai has applied his boundless energy and lifelong commitment to service by serving on the board of directors for the Empire State Development Council, the United Way of CNY, the Upstate Minority Alliance, the Syracuse Onondaga County NAACP, Molina Healthcare, Northside Business Partners, and the Syracuse Police Department. He is a member of a dozen other organizations like Rotary, Masons, 100 Black Men, etc. where he leads by example as well as being a sought-after speaker and advisor. Tai is also a successful entrepreneur, actor, and public speaker in NY, and serves as an inaugural NY State AAPI Commission Member, NY State Fair Asian Village Superintendent, APAPA Syracuse Chairman, and a proud father. His singular mission is to be the type of person his two amazing children will forever be proud of.

Sue Sun
Sue Sun

Treasurer

Sue Sun holds a Master’s degree in Accounting from SUNY Albany and brings more than ten years of experience in New York State government, including service with the Office of the State Comptroller.

With a strong background in accounting and financial management, she provides valuable expertise in supporting the fiscal stewardship and growth of Asian Arts New York.

Deeply passionate about Asian culture, Sue is committed to promoting cultural understanding and engagement throughout Upstate New York. She hopes to help more people experience, appreciate, and embrace the richness and diversity of Asian traditions and arts.

Renjie Song
Renjie Song

Music Director

Renjie Song is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and Tai Chi master dedicated to preserving and sharing traditional Asian arts.

Since joining Asian Arts New York (AANY) in 2025, he has played a vital role in nearly every major AANY music-related event and public performance throughout New York's Capital Region.

As Music Director, Renjie leads AANY's Eastern Ensemble, contributing his expertise in musical composition, notation, artistic collaboration, and program development. His leadership and versatility have helped shape the ensemble's distinctive sound while supporting performances, educational programs, and community outreach initiatives.

Through his commitment to both music traditions, Renjie continues to advance AANY's mission of promoting cultural understanding and celebrating Asian heritage arts.

Eben Moore
Eben Moore

Event Manager

Eben Moore is an award-winning actor, writer, producer, and director with extensive experience in independent film, theater production, and arts management.

A native of New York's Capital Region and a graduate of Bennington College, he recently returned to the area after many years in New York City.

As the founder and artistic leader of the Bargain Basement Players, Moore combines creative vision with strong organizational and production expertise. His work spans performance, directing, community engagement, and event coordination, bringing together artists and audiences through innovative storytelling and collaborative programming.

At Asian Arts New York (AANY), Eben serves as Event Manager, supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of cultural programs, performances, and community events. His passion for the arts and community engagement supports AANY's mission of connecting cultures through artistic expression.
